Chase Zreet

chase

Chase is a copywriter at Firehouse in Dallas. Bunch of killer projects up on his site for clients like Interstate Batteries (OMG the van), National Cheerleaders Association, and Nothing Bundt Cakes. But what’s featured above is not on his site. It’s a video cover letter Chase made back in the day to try to land a gig at Wieden on Sprite. It’s a rap video, which, I know, if you’re like MC you’re like “Oh no,” but oh yes. It’s really good. And it’s all Chase. Tip o’ the Hat, sir.

Copywriter Wanted: Up&Up, Greenville, SC

UpUp

Up&Up in Greenville, South Carolina, is on the hunt for a copywriter. From Up&Up: “Our Copywriter will partner with our Art Director to form a powerhouse creative force, in order to create inspirational ideas and concepts that others only wish they could execute. We are seeking someone who can take the client’s idea and give it substance, direction, and content through dead-on creative strategy and a chameleon-like mastery of the written word.

What We Do

Up&Up is the only agency that creates brand experiences for universities who are unafraid of change, exhilarated by innovation, and desire to stand apart in a time when the competition for students and alumni dollars is growing from all sides and the perceived value of a college degree is being challenged. Our work heightens brand awareness, boosts applications, attracts better students & helps retain them, grows alumni engagement, and makes the case for donors to give.

Who We Are and What We Value

At Up&Up, we’re an agency that impacts the greater good. We get things done. We solve problems that are impossible to solve. And we want everyone to win. We call that being Tenacious, a Resolutionist and serving The Greater Good. We also believe we haven’t arrived, and there’s something to learn each and every day. We call what we are, a Conscious Culture. We believe there’s a different and a better way to do business. Primarily, that’s being transparent, vulnerable and showing up as your true self vs. your work persona. It’s about the journey, with the destination for you and our company to be the best we can absolutely be. Our conscious culture is committed to being radically responsible, curious and candid. But that’s just the beginning of the rabbit hole. If you’re open to being challenged, learning and discovering and revealing more about yourself than you thought was possible, then this might just be the place for you. If you think this is you, then please, read on.

Jeff Schermer

Jeff is a creative at The Walt Disney Company in Orlando, serving the Disney Parks & Resorts division. At the time of this post he’s been there two months, so most of his portfolio is from his previous gigs at Zimmerman and Republica. That’s how you do it.

MC Best of 2017: 9 Sites That Made Us Go Damn

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

Last MC Best Of 2017 post! There were so many great portfolios on MC in 2017, and so many sites that included projects that blew us away. If your site was posted on MC and isn’t included below, it definitely does NOT mean it didn’t make us go, “Damn.” It might mean your site was featured in a different Best of 2017 post, or was so good that we thought it wasn’t fair, or it might just mean MC is full of idiots (probably). That said, the portfolios below are really, really good.

MC Best of 2017: 3 Crazy Fun Projects

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

There’s no way for MC to go through all of the sites posted in 2017 and select the “best” projects. Impossible. But here are three that we couldn’t believe clients actually funded:

Shelley Barker’s Hot Wheels For Real: shelleybarkerwrites.com/project/hot-wheels

Jo Forel’s Boots Christmas: joforel.com/#/_boots-tis-the-season

MC Best Of 2017: Site Headline

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

Got to give a shout-out to the most honest site headline of the year. Rebecca Wang’s “Copywriter—my Art Director didn’t help me with this.” Calling it like it is (love it). Bonus shout-out for Rebecca’s collection of button downs (on her About Me page). Impressive.

MC Best of 2017: AD We Wish Would Set Our Type

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

Content is king, but great art direction can make good content great, and great content incredible. Every time we visit Jon Arnold’s site, “The Coolville,” it’s always the same thing. Jealous jealous jealous. There’s nothing a copywriter values more than an art director/designer who knows their typography.

Best Of 2017: Site From Perú

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

The world got crazy in 2017. Actually, it got crazy here in the States, not the whole world. Doesn’t take more than five minutes on MC before you realize it’s all about positivity. But for the first time, MC got a few comments from copywriter trolls that were nothing but bigotry and hate. Just want to reiterate here, comments like that will never appear on MC and anyone who submits them will be blocked from the site for life.

Now let’s get back to the positivity. In case you missed it, please check out Peruvian copywriter Hugo Eléspuru’s portfolio. It’s awesome. More international sites in 2018, please!

MC Best of 2017: Strategic Set-ups

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

One of the things MC gets asked about most is what makes a great project strategic set-up. What’s too much? What’s too little? Here are a couple of sites that got it just right:

MC Best of 2017: Team Site

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

It’s become rarer and rarer to see team sites on MC. The shrinking of agency land along with the growth of the permalancer life might be contributing to that. In any case, there was one team site that knocked our socks off in 2017 (did it ever): Jason Tisser (CD/Art Director) and Regan Kline (CD/Copywriter).

MC Best of 2017: Using Our Powers For Good

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

As copywriters, art directors and designers, we use our creative powers to sell everything from cars to cake. (Cake?) That’s what we do. But most of us also try, from time to time, to use our powers to help make the world a better place. Special 2017 shout out to Scott Kirkwood, who’s managed to flip that equation and make a career out of making the world a better place.

MC Best of 2017: First Impression

MC_BestOf2017_SiteBadge2

There’s nothing more impressive than landing on a portfolio site and instantly recognizing, just by the thumbnails, amazing campaigns that have been hugely successful and won all kinds of awards. But toward the end of 2017, MC saw a couple of portfolios that did a little something different, and while they are a little slower to load—they sure do make an incredible first impression.
